A Crayford pensioner has spoken of her delight after seeing an old picture of her late mother in News Shopper.

Vintage camera collector Tim Allen contacted the News Shopper on January 29 in a bid to find three women pictured at Warwick Castle.

The pictures were found on a film Mr Allen had picked up in EllernorLions charity shop in Crayford Road.

The 43-year-old from Lower Road, Hextable said: "It is a complete lottery with a film that old - sometimes it can come out completely black due to over exposure.

"I put the photos online and within about 15 minutes I had emails and Facebook messages telling me they were taken at Warwick Castle."

Avid News Shopper reader, Iris Bassett, 79, from St Paulinus Court told News Shopper that she 'couldn't believe it' when she saw her mum, Edith Lewis, grinning up at her from the paper.

She said: "I was shocked to see it was my dear mother and friends, who I don't know, but it was taken when she lived at Orchard House flats in Northend Road.

"They used to go on outings. I have another photo on another outing she went to, taken outside the flats but I don't know where they were going.

"Who knows, it might have been Warwick Castle."

Mrs Lewis had seven daughters, including Iris, and one son.

Her daughter added: "When my brother phoned and said "it's mum," I said I'd been waiting for him to see it."

Mr Allen has agreed to send Mrs Basset high quality versions of the prints whilst Mrs Bassett has offered the amateur photographer her late husband's vintage camera for his collection.

Mr Allen said: "It's fantastic news.

"I'll make the best prints I can for her."
