Firefighters are planning a 24-hour strike next week.

Residents in Kent are being urged to take extra care during the Fire Brigades Union strike, which runs between 7am on Wednesday (Feb 25) and 7am on Thursday (Feb 26).

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service will continue to answer and deal with 999 calls and will have crews at locations across Kent but will not have the normal level of provision.

People are being encouraged to consider the following issues in avoiding fires:

  • Most home fires start in the kitchen for example, when someone is distracted or falls asleep, leaving a pan on the hob.
  • Before you leave the house and before you go to bed check around your home that everything is turned off
  • Many calls are to rescue people from road crashes so people are advised to take care on the road and not speed
  • If you run a business please review your risk plans and make extra checks during the strike
