The daughter of a New Ash Green carpenter who battled cancer is taking part in a 14-mile walk in his memory.

Kelly Evans, 34, is raising money with nine of her friends for the hospital which treated her dad David Wise.

Mr Wise was diagnosed with myelonoma in November 2012 and received treatment at The Royal Marsden in Sutton but sadly passed away in December 2013.

Ms Evans said: “We got him transferred to The Royal Marsden as they had all the equipment to diagnose him quickly and he was given trial drugs, which were not offered to him elsewhere.

“He started to improve but sadly developed pneumonia and passed away on 31 December 2013.

“It’s been a very difficult year and I’ve dealt with it by fundraising - we took part in The Marsden March last year too.

“As it was only three months after dad died, we weren’t prepared but this year we’ve been training and I’ve recently done a 5k run.”

The mother-of-two is doing the 14-mile Marsden March, walking 14 miles between the hospital’s sites in Chelsea and Sutton, in honour of her dad’s bravery.

She said: “I’m doing it in memory of dad and to help raise awareness and money at the same time.

“It’s going to be a very emotional day, especially as a lot of the walkers have their story written on their back.

Today (Jan 19) is the last day to sign up for the Marsden March, either a 14-mile or five-mile walk, on March 22, to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
