Commuters across News Shopper's patch have been affected by severe delays on the railways caused by high winds this morning (January 15).

High winds overnight saw trees and debris fall on railway lines across South London and north Kent.

A tree which fell on the line at West Malling at 6.30am left trains between Swanley and Maidstone West delayed for up to 20 minutes.

A tree on the line at Gravesend caused further chaos with Southeaster services delayed by aound half-an-hour.

The tree has now been removed but delays are expected to continue until 10am.

A signalling problem between New Cross Gate and London Bridge is delaying Southern and Thameslink services by up to 20 minutes between Sydenham and London Bridge and Canada Water .

A spokesman for National Rail said: "Southern passengers may use London Overground and London Underground via any reasonable route.

"There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 10am.
