Each week I will use this space to share my five thoughts of the week – the good, the bad and the ugly. But, I’m not selfish, so I’m also very happy to donate the space to guest writers to have their say, so write to me.

1. Biggest jobsworth award of the week goes to Southern* rail’s young lady on the Sutton station ticket barrier. I realise you’re not actually programmed to listen to customers, but just for information, if someone buys an off-peak ticket for a train that leaves at 9.30am they need to be allowed through the barrier before 9.30am, even if it’s only a moment or two, to stand any chance of catching their train.

*I previously attributed this behaviour to a Southeastern employee, but it seems I meant Southern.

2. I experienced a Nando’s restaurant for the second time in my life at the weekend. The first time I had a pint of coke poured over me and was served cold, inedible chicken. So, you would think the second visit could only be an improvement. Believe you me, there won’t be a third time lucky for this one.

3. It’s ridiculous putting the clocks back. We now get lighter mornings at a time when it makes no difference to ordinary people, but darker evenings when the time could be much better used. You might as well leave the clocks as they are or, better still, put them forward an hour in the autumn. It’s proabably only a sop to “poor old farmers” or the Scots.

4. I’m walking around today without creaking or groaning. That’s what happens when my hockey is called off – we also get a 5-0 victory. But, I’d rather have played, even if we’d lost.

5. And finally, does anyone know what happened to Nick Berry? I haven’t seen him for years, apparently he was a housewife’s dream a few years ago.
