A woman has died after being hit by a bus in Gravesend.

The pedestrian, believed to be local and in her 40s, was struck by the single-decker 480 bus at around 3.35pm yesterday.

It is thought she was trying to cross Overcliffe from north to south, near Iceland, when she was hit by the bus, which was travelling in the direction of the town centre

An air ambulance landed in the car park of Wickes DIY store and the victim was treated at the scene but paramedics were unable to save her.

Her next of kin have been informed.

Overcliffe was closed between Darnley Road and Stuart Road, allowing officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit to examine the scene.

Officers would like to speak to two women who were standing Iceland at the junction with Stuart Road, as they may have important information.
