Firefighters rushed to a mystery blaze in a Gravesend flat in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 20).

The incident occurred at Lancaster Court in York Road at around 1.40am and it took crews almost an hour to extinguish the flames.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

One man was led to safety from a neighbouring flat suffering from smoke inhalation and was given first aid by an ambulance crew.

Three fire engines were sent to the scene along with Kent Police officers and the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

Crews in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with hose reel jets and a main jet and carried out a full search of all flats on the ground floor and first floor.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
