Five per cent off package holidays with Tickets Travel in Bexley.
Twenty per cent discount at Bonmarché fashion store in Orpington.
An £8 reduction on the price of MOTs at Sidcup Test Centre.

These are the first three confirmed rewards for members of News Shopper’s Kindness Club.

The club is our new community rewards scheme which offers more than just a simple thank-you to members of the public who can show they have done something nice for other people.

People who take time out from their normal lives to improve other people’s lives in a small way can now claims extra rewards in the form of exclusive discounts and deals offered by local businesses.

The three businesses above have all come forward to reward good deeds.

They have understood the benefits of good publicity and possible extra trade from being involved.

But more importantly, they have all expressed keenness to make some sort of goodwill gesture of gratitude to people who have made an effort to be kind.

They all want to help encourage a little more niceness in the world by joining News Shopper’s campaign.

We applaud their offers and thank them for their own kindness.

If you want to gain access to these rewards – as well as all the other rewards which will be added – you need to join the Kindness Club.

To be honest I know a few people that would be on top of the list for the kindness club, but being the sort of people they are I cannot ever seeing them put their names to a list, the reason being they do what they do and do not want to be made a fuss of over it, so then surely the people that add their own names, will be people that like to get attention for what they do. Most people who are volenteers do not want this. GOOD luck anyway hope it works.

I had the same reservations but it appears that is the whole point.

Simon Bull (and NS) is trying to tempt exactly those types of people to put themselves forward for once and accept a well deserved treat.

So time to stop being so humble and step into the limelight.

Though I wouldn't want to exclude anyone from applying, this scheme is not really aimed at volunteers or community workers etc. We're not setting out to find local heroes.

This is about rewarding people for thinking of others outside of their normal lives.

Too many people these days would see someone in need of help and walk on by. Maybe with rewards on offer some of these people will be encouraged to stop and help, even if it takes time out of their day.

How many people would usually think of doing some sort of random good deed for someone else? Buying a coffee for the stranger behind you, washing your neighbour's car, sending a gift to someone you don't know? Most people would never dream of doing anything like this - but maybe with rewards on offer some people might think about it.

This is all about encouraging a little more kindness in the world.

As for people being too humble or modest to come forward, all I can say is that if they don't want the rewards then it's their loss!

'This is all about encouraging a little more kindness in the world.'

We could certainly do with more kindness in the world.

'As for people being too humble or modest to come forward, all I can say is that if they don't want the rewards then it's their loss!'

Unfortunately though some people haven't quite grasped the concept!

How you've got the cheek to post on this thread goodness knows given you have repeatedly called advertisers' existing and potential customers 'scum'.
