Kindness Club - News Shopper's community rewards scheme

The Kindness Club is News Shopper's new community rewards scheme which aims to say thanks to people who do good deeds. What are the rewards and how does the scheme work? Find out more or see below for the latest news.

Kindness Club: Start earning rewards for doing good deeds

IF you want to get the good times rolling, do something nice for someone else and become a member of News Shopper’s Kindness Club.

This is our new community rewards scheme which aims to say thanks for all the little good deeds which usually go unnoticed every day.

The rewards will come in the form of exclusive deals and discounts from local businesses, which are being encouraged to sign up.

Businesses have already been showing support for the scheme and we hope to have the first few of them confirmed very soon.

As well as continuing to recruit businesses to the scheme, we also now want to open it up to you – the wonderful members of the public.

Yes, we want you to start doing good deeds to become members of the Kindness Club.

The first rewards for you to claim should be available shortly, but in the meantime there are still benefits to joining now.

Firstly, you’ll have the honour of being among the first members of our new club.

You’ll also get the glory of having your name on the Kindness Club roll of honour.

And you’ll get a lovely, warm feeling inside from having made someone’s day or improved someone’s life in a little way.

See how you can become a member of the Kindness Club

Plus, businesses – we want you! Can you offer a small reward to people who do good deeds for others? See how you can involved.

Why doesn't Newsshopper get the ball moving by offering their own rewards? Maybe they just don't care.

It's exactly because of people like you that the Kindness Club is needed. Instead of saying something positive, or doing something positive, it's easier to come on here with a moronic username making utterly useless comments. Go away and come back when you've got something better to add, such as reporting you've done a good deed.

'Why doesn't Newsshopper get the ball moving by offering their own rewards?'

That's an entirely relevant question, don't understand why Simon Bull didn't just answer it rather than being so rude.

Hey it's YOU! Thanks for showing up - it just hasn't been the same without your sunny and helpful presence.

Asking News Shopper to do more already is a little greedy. It's a bit like saying to Santa "so you've given out all the presents, but what else can you do?!"

We have already started the ball rolling. We've launched this scheme, have we not? That is the big reward.

But in a way it's also the little reward from which all other rewards will grow. We are the rewards HQ. We are the god of rewards, creating a world of rewards from nothing. And we see that it will be good. We are the king of rewards, declaring unto thee that our land will be a land of good deeds and rewards from this day forth. You get the picture.

So then AR2048ie, I'll expect to see your application for the Kindness Club any day now.

Simon I think it's a great idea and I hope there are plenty of businesses who are ready to give something back.

In these depressing days it is all too easy to become cynical (see previous comments for example) and fail to see the good that people do. We seem naturally inclined to be remember negative experiences hence our skewed view of the world. The press (including NS) often face criticism for running nothing but negative news stories. Yet when you have tried to redress the balance with positive news items there are the usual sarcastic comments or indeed a lack of interest. For example the youth section, swap shop, young stars and the kindness club have all been positive features but yet are not widely supported by readers.

Maybe the doom-mongers prefer to read about muggings, fires, car crashes and stabbings as it reinforces their negative viewpoints.

So next time readers think the news is too depressing think about what NS has tried to do and how quick some people were to undermine it.

Good luck with this Simon.

'Hey it's YOU! Thanks for showing up - it just hasn't been the same without your sunny and helpful presence.'

My pleasure, after all I'm the one who has been politely suggesting that everyone can feel welcome, be treated with respect and join in without being subjected to personal attacks and downright rudeness etc - y'know, showing kindness to others.

Yet you never took kindly to my suggestion, you always strongly objected to the News Shopper setting such an example, preferring to support insulting readers, calling people 'scum' just because of the area they happened to live in and so on!

'Asking News Shopper to do more already is a little greedy.'

I don't think hoping for a lead by example approach is being greedy :)

"So then AR2048ie, I'll expect to see your application for the Kindness Club any day now."

Have you not already registered me in light of my previous kindness to others in my attempts for you to uphold that posters be treated with respect, not subjected to personal attacks etc etc?

LATD - thanks very much for your comments, some very wise words written by your good self. It is a constant battle to defeat the apathy and cynicism but I'll keep trying. Quite frankly, there are just too many moaners, whingers and complainers out there. I'm determined to make this particular scheme work and if it makes just a little difference then I'll be very happy.

AR2048 - yawn.

AR2048, if you do not like it, do not read it.

If you want to practice your evidently mediocre trolling skills, Your Lord suggests you visit his highly amusing, entertaining and informative blog and leave Mr Bull's excellent campaign to do some good in the world.

I promise you that the people you will find in the Land of Blog are not half as polite as our Webmaster and would love some fresh meat to dine on.

Your Lord, Erastus Theobald Piggott

Webmaster Simon Bull The Wise, I would like to apply for membership of the Kindness Club.

Today, I had to visit my optician in order to have my cataracts inspected with a view to surgery.

As this morning was a very cold and bright one, my old nose became rather dribbly, so before I entered my opticians, I thought it best to purchase a handy-sized packet of tissues from the newsagent.

After blowing my nose and feeling a great sense of relief that I would not have the embarrassment of being examined with a runny hooter, I took my place in the waiting room and settled myself by reading today's copy of The Daily Mail.

After 5 minutes or so, a young lady came in and, after giving her details to the receptionist, took a seat opposite me.

I could not help but notice that she was suffering from a flowing bugle, and she proceeded to search her handbag for a tissue to no avail.

Not being a Lord to see a damsel in distress, I reached into my jacket pocket and offered her a tissue, explaining as I did so that I had been in the same predicament just a few minutes before.

The young lady took a tissue and said 'Thank you so much'.

I hope my act of kindness is worthy enough to be considered for membership.

Your Lord, Erastus Theobald Piggott

I just helped a lady that was having troubles with one of those self service tills in supermarkets. Unfortunately I managed to make the situation worse for her and she then needed to call for assistance!

Does this count?

Very helpful comments AR2048 Nooot!

I have commented on the blog page Simon and I have agreed with Mr Let's views, we feel people are a bit reluctant to blow their own trumpet? Not sure what you think.

City, you in a supermarket? I thought you would have staff to do that for you!

Your Lord thinks that Webmaster Simon Bull The Wise should be top of the list for acts of kindness.

He looks after us all so well, after all. A better man you could not meet, methinks.

What do you think, Webmaster?

Lizzielooloo, you are so right - but I did send the office secretary down to buy my lunch and I did pay for it also so technically I brought the right to boast of this good deed.

I am also in the lucky situation where my secretary will also blow my trumpet if I feel it needs to be blown!

I'd just like to nominate all the staff at Guy's and St Thomas oncology, haematology and radiography departments for being INCREDIBLY nice people and who's care and professionalism has already given me 1 more year of my life than I was going to get.
So now to help them if there's any company out there can develop a suitable electrically powered, temperature controlled and SAFE sleeve for use by these people to help bring veins up for easier insertion of cannulas for chemo - all of us patients will be forever indebted to you.
So go ahead you inventive ones - make our day and start a kindness move.

I would like to 2nd Naq views and nominate all the staff at Guys and St Thomas, especially their haematology day ward.

While my private health care company turned me away for having a "non-curable" illness the staff at Guys and St Thomas have been brilliant.

They will definately be getting a small gift this christmas from me!

Hi everyone, I've loved reading all your comments. Health staff do show tremendous kindness under extremely difficult circumstances and they should be praised whenever possible.

However, the idea of this campaign is not really to reward people for doing their jobs, however commendable those jobs are. It's more about finding people who temporarily step out of their normal lives to do a specific good deed.

I want people to think about getting out and making other people happy! I want people to think about small acts of kindness which could have a direct and positive effect on people around them. I want people to think of things they can do which will make the recipients of their kindness say to their friends "you'll never guess what happened to me today ..."

You can find out what will qualify you for the Kindness Club and how you can apply by reading the questions page in the main Kindness Club section.

Some years ago,I was having coffee at Lewisham hospital. A part-time coffee shop worker was worrying about a musical number she had to prepare for sixth form. She wanted to sing Pink Floyd's 'Another brick in the wall', but didn't know the lyrics. I phoned my wife; she put on the CD, put the phone receiver on a speaker, and the girl listened to the track twice on my mobile and jotted down the lyrics.

The gratitude bordered on incredulity. It's nice to be nice.
