Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council clerk Graham Blew outside the council offices NK11149
News Shopper's On the Spot asks residents about issues in north Kent. This week
42-year-old Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council clerk GRAHAM BLEW gives his views and ideas for the area.
What is the best thing about north Kent?
The people and local communities are the best in the world.
What is the worst thing about north Kent?
The lack of quality road infrastructure.
What would you change about the area?
Increase the investment from central Government for regeneration of the deprived areas.
How has the area changed since you have been there?
The international railway station at Ebbsfleet has opened; the Ebbsfleet Valley and Eastern Quarry developments have begun. The best change, though, has to be the opening of the Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council offices and community hall, as it is a facility the people of the town should be very proud of.
Do you make much use of the area's attractions?
Yes - my wife and two young sons try to enjoy as many of the area's facilities as possible. It's a great place to work, live and visit.
Who do you think is going to win the Premier League this year and why?
I am a season ticket holder at Dartford Football Club and they have just become Ryman Division North champions - so I really don't care.

l What is the worst thing which has happened to you since you became Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council clerk?
The realisation not everyone is aware the town council's website address is swanscombeandgreenhithetc.kentparishes.gov.uk
What is the best thing which has happened to you since you became Swanscombe and Greenhithe Town Council clerk?
Being successful in securing funding for community facilities.
Do you think your council is doing a good job?
Yes. In particular, the provision of the new Dartford stadium, which I think is a great boost for young people in the area.
What do you think of the town's public transport network?
We need more buses on more routes. There are not enough bus routes to link up with the Fastrack services.
Do you think there is a problem with anti-social behaviour in Swanscombe?
Every parish within the borough has anti-social behaviour problems but fortunately Swanscombe and Greenhithe has a fantastic network of PCSOs, police, community wardens and local organisations working in partnership to constantly reduce any problems.
If you were in charge of the area for one day, what would you do?
Take everyone on a tour of the Swanscombe Heritage Park so they could appreciate one of the town's great assets. Then have a party in Greenhithe High Street for the whole town.
Do you think regeneration is good for north Kent?
It's a great idea as long as the money which is allocated is spent correctly. It's important that it is not spent on huge consultant fees.
Why did you decide to become a town clerk?
To be involved, at grassroots, in the day to day running of a vibrant and exciting town.
Is there anything else which you would like to say or get off your chest?
People tend to immediately be negative when thinking or talking about local government. I want people to take a moment to celebrate and acknowledge the positive things the town council does for the residents of Swanscombe and Greenhithe.
