  • "Has there been a change of attitude then by Conservatives? Are they really going to try and do the best for Swanley when the councillors in Hextable have clearly not wanted to be part of Swanley. Researching back on the Newshopper website, April 2005 under the heading WE WANT TO BE ALONE, "A maverick councillor is calling on his fellow Hextable residents to support a unilateral declaration of independence (UDI) from Swanley.

District councillor Tony Searles says it is time the village had its own voice and should cut ties with its neighbour.

He was speaking at a meeting called by the village’s residents’ association to discuss growing calls for a split.

Cllr Searles argues by falling under the control of Swanley Town Council, Hextable residents are getting a bad deal."

Of course this went on to actually happen. My point, they listed themselves as being in Swanley for the reason of elections."
