CHILDREN took their concerns about the state of the streets around their school to the top when they quizzed one of Bexley’s councillors.

The youngsters had scrutinised their environment by walking the streets around Crook Log Primary School in Bexleyheath, before Christmas as part of their Citizen Week.

They then wrote with their findings and concerns to Bexley Council cabinet member for ther environment, Councillor Gareth Bacon.

He was so impressed with their letters he dropped in on the school last week to discuss the children’s concerns in person.

Sarah Rawsthorpe, 10, had written about the amount of dog mess on the street.

She told him it was “horrible” people did not clean up after their pets.

She said: “I was surprised the councillor decided to come in person and talk to us about what we discovered.”

Cllr Bacon said: “It’s heartening to see our young residents are so keen to be involved in keeping their borough clean
