A Dartford mum has warned parents and children in the area to be vigilant after her 13-year-old daughter was approached by a stranger on her way to school.

The mother, who wished to remain anonymous, told News Shopper her daughter, a pupil at The Leigh Academy, was walking to school on Monday morning (June 18) when it happened.

The girl told her mother a man started speaking to her at the junction of St Vincent's Avenue and Attlee Drive.

According to the pupil, the man tapped her on the shoulder and asked her questions about herself - including her name, where she was going and what school year she was in.

She refused to answer the man's questions, but gave him a false name and carried on walking. She claims the man left her alone while taking a phone call.

After she arrived at school, a teacher reported the incident to police.

According to the pupil, the man who approached her is black, about 5ft 5in, and of an average build.

At the time of the alleged incident he was wearing blue jeans, a black t-shirt and a gold chain around his neck.

The mother of the child told News Shopper her daughter is "shaken up" after "a scary experience" but is ok now.

News Shopper has contacted Kent Police for an update.
