The second stage of demolition of Littlebrook Power Station is set to take place next month, it has been announced

The 'A' station of the site will be destroyed in a controlled explosion at 11pm on Saturday, June 9. The QEII bridge will be closed during this time in an already planned closure.

Its structure is a steel and concrete building with steel cladding. It is the second part of the power plant to be destroyed in a demolition process that is expected to finish in 2020.

Demolition company Brown and Mason Ltd has promised that disruption as a result of the explosion will be minimal, and no road closures are planned.

However, there will be an exclusion zone in place which is largely within the power station itself.

Residents have been warned to expect about ten seconds of a loud blast, as the structure is made of metal. The company has assured residents it will do everything it can to reduce the amount of dust generated from the explosion.

When the 'B' site of the power station was demolished at the end of April, Dartford residents shared their sadness at losing a childhood landmark.

First opened in 1939, Littlebrook operated for decades until it was closed in 2015. Over the years it had produced energy from various sources such as coal and oil.
