Dartford Borough Council has elected a new Mayor at its Annual Council meeting.
Cllr David Mote, who represents Greenhithe as a borough and town councillor, was elected on Wednesday, May 9.
Cllr Mote and his wife, Ellen, are reportedly "really looking forward" to getting on with their Mayoral duties, and have both taken a break from their careers to focus more heavily on the work ahead.
Having worked in housing for many years, the new Mayor has said he wants to prioritise sustainable living, and wants to encourage people who own houses to do their bit to help the environment.
Cllr Mote's four chosen charities for this year's Mayor's Charity Appeal are:
Cherished Memories - A charity that organises special trips for families in which a family member has a terminal illness
Home Start - The north west Kent branch of the charity helps new parents get to grips with raising children and provides support to families
SAFE - Providing support and help to children in the Thames Valley area who have been affected by crime
Mary's Child - A church-based charity working across Dartford
In his spare time, Cllr Mote is a keen runner and former member of Belgrave Harriers. He is also a Chairman of the Stone, Dartford Scout Group.
