A 21-year-old Deptford man is on trial accused of driving a car into a nightclub in Gravesend, which left people with broken and dislocated knees.

The incident happened outside Blake’s nightclub on March 17 and injured 13 people.

Mohammed Abdul, 21, of McMillan Street, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court via a video from Belmarsh Prison on Monday (April 16).

The hearing had to be abandoned because of technical problems. No plea was therefore entered.

"I can't hear you, I can't hear what they are saying,” Mr Abdul said as staff tried to fix the issue.

A trial date has been set for September 18.

A 4x4 vehicle is believed to have quickly driven along the alleyway beside the nightclub, before stopping for 15 seconds, and then driving through a marquee and dance floor.

Kent Police say Mr Abdul was asked to leave the nightclub earlier in the evening after a fight.

He was later arrested and charged with the attempted murder of Katie Wells, 18, and others.

Miss Wells, of Gravesend, suffered a broken pelvis after the crash.

Last month – witness Sonny Powar said: "Some guy wasn't let into the club or got kicked out so he drove his 4x4 into the tent we was all in.

"It stopped at my feet so any further and I could have died, then he reversed up and we all ran.

"We ripped the tent wall apart and got out and called the police.

"It was a complete mess of panic and chaos."
