A woman from Dartford has been crowned gold medallist in weightlifting after managing to lift a whopping 126kg in the Commonwealth Games.

Emily Godley, 28, moved to Melbourne last summer but had trained in south east London at the Europa Gym in Crayford for the last 12 years.

Now she is celebrating on Australia’s Gold Coast after clinching the medal – and achieving a personal best – in the women’s 75 kg category.

And if that wasn’t enough of a reason to celebrate, Emily will be coming home to Kent in May to marry her partner of six years, Joe Muskett.

Christina Farrelly, the partner of Mr Muskett’s father, Nick, said: “We are over the moon.

“This means everything to her. She has worked for 12 years to get this.”

She added that, although she has not been able to speak with Emily yet, she is brimming with excitement for the wedding in May.

“We are so lucky to have her in the family.

"She is just fantastic. We were so happy when she came into our lives.”

Rosie Blackman, Emily’s future sister-in-law, said: “As a family, we’re all very proud of Emily.

“She made a big step last year to move to Melbourne with my brother.

“She has juggled two jobs, whilst training six days a week.

“She has such admirable self-discipline and sportsmanship.

“I can’t wait to make her my official sister in law in the next few weeks.

“No one deserves this more than she does.”

Emily will be bringing back gold to the UK when she marries her beau on May 12.
