Once popular names such as Alexa, Harvey and Felicia are going out of fashion amongst millennial parents due to their connotations, according to new research.

ChannelMum.com released the data after conducting a study of 1,434 young parents, who said the main reason they would avoid a specific baby name is because it reminded them of someone they disliked.

This new generation of parents is rejecting names that were once amongst the most desired for newborns due to modern-day connotations.

Alexa was once ranked the 21st most popular name for girls, but it has fallen out of favour since Amazon’s robotic invention of the same name has taken over the organisation of lots of households.

SJ Strum, ChannelMum.com baby name expert, said: "Although Alexa was a popular choice a few years ago, the rapid proliferation of Amazon Alexas is killing it off. No one wants a daughter and a device with the same name.”

The Alexa bot has famously been caught on video laughing eerily at random times when not prompted to speak, which frightened lots of its users.

Strum added that Samantha, Harmony and Solana are also being rejected due to associations with bots – specifically, sex robots.

Another girls’ name that has dropped off the radar is Felicia, after the worldwide explosion of the “Bye Felicia” meme featuring Ice Cube – the name has taken on a new meaning of “go away.”

Perhaps the least surprising of the names shunned by parents is Harvey. Since the emergence of the Time’s Up and #metoo movements, the name has become associated with disgraced Hollwood mogul Harvey Weinstein, who has been accused of sexual harassment and assault by almost 100 women.

In a more bizarre turn of events, the once hugely popular Ollie now sits in 69th place, due to an internet phenomenon started in America in which people eat dog food from the brand of the same name.

Other names that disappearing because of their associations are Ryan (Ryanair), Katie (Katie Hopkins) and Christian, presumably due to the rise and rise of a certain erotic novel series featuring the infamous Mr Grey…
