Sir Michael Fallon has launched a bid to rename Sevenoaks.

The Sevenoaks MP has recommended that Swanley finally be recognised in the name of his constituency.

Sir Michael said: "The town of Swanley is very different from the town of Sevenoaks, and each contributes equally to the character of the constituency.

"I refer to my constituency as Sevenoaks & Swanley, and I believe that now is the time that Swanley be recognised in its formal name.”

Under new proposals set out by the Boundary Commission, Sevenoaks would be made bigger to include Wrotham, Igtham and Stansted from Tonbridge.

Should Sir Michael's request be granted, his constituency will be renamed Sevenoaks and Swanley.

Up until 1974, Swanley was a part of the Dartford Rural District.

The boundary review is to make constituencies equal in size and if agreed will come into effect at the next election.
