A church in Stone is about to turn 'Diy SOS' to build a community tea room run by volunteers.

The Crossways Community Church will officially start building tomorrow, October 3, after getting the backing of residents to set up the Two Trees Tea Room.

The church, a registered charity based at the Stone Pavillion, has had donations of time and materials from businesses in the area as the project begins to get off the ground.

Lead pastor Stephen Brindley said the the communities's donations were a blessing.

He said: "We did surveys with local people and got only positive feedback. There is a real need for something like this in the area. Of course the church will pay out of its own pocket, but local businesses have said they would love to be involved in a project like this.

"Their help is a blessing because we can spend our money elsewhere in the area.

"People were positive about the idea, we want it to be a real hub for the community. A place for people to go, relax and chill out. It will have information about local events and will be run and built by volunteers and the church - we are really turning DIY SOS on it."

The tea room will have a timber frame and Stephen said he hopes it will be built by late October.

He said: "We think that this will be good for the area. For people of all ages, it will be somewhere nice to go. Hopefully the finished product will be high end and people can see where their effort has gone.

"We will start building tomorrow, then hopefully I'd like to see us up and running by the end of October."

The church are still looking for volunteers and businesses who are willing to donate materials and time to the project.

Stephen said: "We work closely with the council and appreciate people donating their time to help the project. It's something the community needs."
