Firefighters have issued a warning after a build up of fat in an oven caused a fire in Northfleet.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to an oven fire in Chadwick Close, last night at about 5.10pm.

Crews used extinguished the fire that is believed to have been caused by a build up of fat in the gas oven. The cooker was removed and there were no reported injuries.

Firefighters have urged people across Kent to think about cleaning their ovens and hobs to help prevent similar fires from occurring. Over half of the fires KFRS attends in the home start in the kitchen.
