A burglar who was found hiding in some bushes near Greenhithe train station has been jailed.

Steven Hilden, 26, of no fixed abode but believed to be from Abbey Wood, broke into a home in High Street just after 9pm on Friday, July 21.

Hilden was traced to a nearby train station after a neighbour spotted him leaving the scene on a black bicycle.

After being challenged by the neighbour and the homeowner at the station Hilden attempted to flee.

Police found him hiding in the undergrowth nearby, metres away from a black bag.

Inside the bag were several items of jewellery taken from the home. Other stolen items were also discovered nearby.

Investigating officer DC Kati Edge said: "Hilden travelled down from London to commit this crime.

"He is a career burglar who shows little to no remorse for his actions or the impact they will have on his victims.

"I hope his sentence will be of some solace to the victims and encourage Hilden to change his destructive behaviour upon release."

Hilden was found guilty of burglary at Maidstone Crown Court.

He was sentenced to three years in prison on Monday, August 21.
