A Dartford born and bred comedian took her home town to Edinburgh last month as she told tales of The Flying Boat and Zens to audiences at the Fringe Festival.

Vicki Sargent, 23, performed her comedy show "One Woman Army" to audiences at the Cuckoo Nest telling them about her life and upbringing in Dartford.

Vicki, who only got back from the festival yesterday (August 29), said she is proud of her hometown but felt out of touch with the 'going out culture' once she started to train as an actress.

She said: "When I started to train as an actress I was around people who were quoting references that I just didn't know, the only films I remember watching in school were Shrek.

"I remember then telling a guy in Zens I was an actress, he asked if I meant 'like Eastenders' - I said no, more Shakespeare, and he asked what channel that was on.

"I explained, and recited 'oh Romeo', he sighed and asked if I wanted a Jagerbomb.

"The show is about ultimately being proud and unashamed of your roots. You can take the girl out of Dartford, but you can't take Dartford out of the girl."

Vicki has taken inspiration from the Dartford culture she has grown up in woven together with anecdotes about degrading retail jobs, unsuccessful dates and her quest to become a performer.

Vicki's trip to Edinburgh was the second in her comic career as she performed as part of a double act at the festival last year.

One Woman Army is laced with Dartford references from falling asleep in the Flying Boat to Dartford Science and Technology College, and Vicki said she wears her town as a badge of honour, seperating herself from the "typical actor stereotype."

She said: "I want it to be relatable, like you're in my living room and we are having a chat. I was in pyjamas and a dressing gown, laying on a sofa handing out snacks as I just told people about my life, and how I got to where I am today."

Vicki said she will be performing her show in London soon, and will then begin to work on next year's performance.
