A dog that was found covered in his own urine and faeces in a cage near Swanley has been put down by the RSPCA.

The spaniel type dog was only found after a member of the public saw a car acting suspiciously near Crockenhill, at around 10.15pm on June 21.

After investigating, they found the poor dog in a small crate, covered in its own excrement, in Green Court Road.

RSPCA Inspector Ellen Thomas attended and found the dog in the crate with a small bowl of water, but no food or bedding.

When the inspector tried to coax him out it was clear he didn't have proper use of his back legs.

Inspector Thomas said: “I picked him up and took him to the vet where it was confirmed the dog was paralysed from the waist down.

“He had clearly been like this some time as he had pressure sores on his back legs and his hair had grown long through the pads of his back legs where they weren't being used.

“He had faeces stuck to his back end where he could not go to the toilet properly due to being paralysed. His legs were covered in urine and it appeared he'd been in this state for some time.”

The dog was put down and the RSPCA are now appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Inspector Thomas said: “I am disgusted at how this dog has been left to suffer, someone out there has been keeping this dog in this state for weeks, maybe months.

“Anyone with information can call me in complete confidence on our inspector’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018.”
