A plan for a major refurbishment of the Civic Centre in Dartford will be put to the council later this week.

More than £600,000 worth of works would be taken out if the proposal is agreed at Cabinet on Thursday.

The council, which has been based at the civic Centre for 32 years, will discuss a plan that would spend £200,000 on new heating and hot water boilers as well as £50,000 for a new air cooling plant in the Council Chamber.

The report going to Cabinet reads: “The mechanical plant controlling the heating, cooling and fresh air within the Council Chamber is in need of urgent replacement due to the age of the system and difficulty of obtaining parts when required.”

The proposal also suggests £75,000 refurbishment including a new door system for the lobby area of the building.

In a report on the Council website it reads: “The Council has been located in the civic Centre for 32 years and in that time there has been no investment into the structure or plant within the building, other than routine maintenance repairs.

“Works are now needed to the Civic Centre building to improve working conditions and provide modern efficient systems, which in turn, will reduce future running costs.”

It will be recommended to the council Cabinet that the plans be accepted and a decision will be made on Thursday, June 29.
