Gareth Johnson has confirmed he would vote against fox hunting if the matter ever came to Parliament.

Theresa May indicated she will allow Conservative MP’s a free vote on whether to bring back fox hunting.

Mr Johnson, who is standing again to be Dartford’s MP, has confirmed he would stick to his 2014 stance on the sport.

He told the News Shopper: “I have been very clear, if I am re-elected I will vote against any attempt to repeal the act.”

In 2014 Mr Johnson was petitioned by thousands to vote against a bill that would allow more dogs to flush foxes out.

Speaking at the time, he said: “I have previously stated that I would vote in favour of repealing the hunting ban.

“I have been listening very carefully to people in Dartford expressing their views on this issue.

"Having carefully considered the arguments put forward to me by Dartfordians, I have concluded that it is right to vote against these proposed amendments to the hunting ban and keep the law as it currently stands.”

The Labour candidate for Dartford has also said he would vote against bringing back fox hunting.

Dr Bachchu Kaini said: “The majority of Dartfordians oppose fox hunting. I agree – fox hunting is cruel, unnecessary and has no place in our society in 2017.

“That’s why, as Dartford’s MP I promise that I will oppose any attempt by Theresa May and the Conservatives to bring it back.”
