A Greenhithe woman is "devastated" after a flood damaged her home.

Charlene Griggs, 28, of Reed Court, was in her living room with her sons Callum and Kieran when she noticed water dripping from her ceiling on September 2.

Her bathroom was completely flooded due to a burst pipe under her bath – and she says she cannot live there because of the stench.

Ms Griggs is staying at her boyfriend’s house on airbeds with her sons, one of whom, 13-year-old Callum, has Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

She told News Shopper: “I’m having to spend more money getting my son into taxis to go to school while I deal with the house. It’s devastating because his disability is quite severe.

“I feel like I have nothing without my house and it’s getting me depressed.

“We’re all sleeping on airbeds and it’s not good for my disabled son’s health.

“I’ve been back to the house and the stench is unbearable – the only rooms I can access are my bedroom and the kitchen.”

The mum-of-two is annoyed at her housing association, Hyde Housing, for failing to prevent the damage caused.

She added: “I had a major flood in my home and I don’t have a functioning bath - Hyde Housing has not been helpful at all.

“I don’t think the pump under my bath was ever fitted properly and I’ve lived in the house for eight years.

“It could’ve been a lot worse - the ceiling could’ve collapsed on us.”

Olushola Alao, resident services manager for Kent, said: “Immediately we received the report of an issue at this property we attended as an emergency call-out. A leaking pipe was repaired but the contractor was prevented from repairing damage caused by the resident to the ceiling and light fitting in the living room.

“We have now been able to make safe the ceiling and clear the debris caused by the deliberate damage making the home safe and habitable. We aim to complete the repairs as soon as possible and will remain in contact with the tenant and work to resolve the outstanding issues at the earliest opportunity.”
