A yellow weather alert is in place across London and the south east today, warning winds could reach speeds of 50mph.

The warning was issued yesterday by the Met Office and remains in place today until around 9pm today.

Strong southwesterly winds were expected to reach the south west of England by the early hours of this morning, before moving east across the country during the day.

The Met Office chief forcaster warned: "The peak in wind strength will be across southwest England and south Wales during the morning, then extending eastwards through the course of the day.

"Inland areas will have the strongest winds during Saturday afternoon, when localised gusts of 50 mph are possible, particularly in association with showers."

Temperatures in north Kent and south east London are set to peak at around 4pm today with highs of 19C.

However the sunshine remains patchy, rather than the endless blue skies we've been enjoying recently.

High temperatures and strong sunshine look set to reappear on Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs of 27C.
