A huge fire ripped through a house in Greenhithe.

Nearly a third of the house was wrecked in the blaze in London Road in the early hours of this morning (July 29).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) responded to the inferno at 4.29am, using three fire engines to beat back the flames.

A KFRS spokeswoman said: “When crews arrived they found that the heat and flames had already broken a window providing air to vent the fire.

"Crews made their initial attack from outside the building, once they had successfully knocked back the blaze, a breathing apparatus team went inside to make sure no one was inside.

“They used a second hosereel to extinguish the fire, which caused damage to about 30 per cent of the house.”

Firefighters left the burnt-out, unoccupied detached house at around 6.15am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
