Traffic on the Dartford Crossing was brought to a standstill yesterday as police investigated a 'suspicious package' in the tunnel.
Once officers were on the scene the package was deemed harmless and vehicles were back on the move.
The bridge and tunnel were shut briefly in both directions as police arrived on the scene at around 6.30pm.
A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers attended the A282 near the Dartford River Crossing and the package was found to be harmless."
Highways England said they put traffic on hold until around 7.10pm when they got the all clear from the police.
A spokesman said: "The road was never fully closed but traffic was held temporarily, it was a fairly quick and easy police incident."
