A favourite of children for nearly 60 years Dr Seuss’s Cat in the Hat is coming to Dartford in June and is ready to cause mischief.

What’s On’s JIM PALMER took the chance to catch up with the mysterious Cat in the Hat…

Where did you get your fetching hat, Cat?

It’s no big surprise

That the thing I love most

Is my wonderful hat

I do like to boast!

It’s stripey and red

The tallest I’ve seen

If I were to lose it

I’d make such a scene

Where did I get it?

I don’t think I’ll share

It’s a very long story

To tell you how, when and where

You’re a stylish cat, can you give us any fashion tips?

This season’s colour

Some people have said

Well it’s not one, it’s two

It’s blue and it’s red!

As long as you mix

These colours together

You’ll be the height of fashion

For ever and ever!

What are most looking forward to about Dartford?

I’ve never visited

Dartford before

I’ll have so much fun

Of that I am sure

So come right along

For playtime with me

At the Orchard Theatre

It’ll be such fun, you’ll see!

You’re over 50 years old, why do kids still love you?

There’s no secret trick

To my lasting success

We all love a story

About making a mess!

I like playing games

And the fun that it brings

But no matter how messy

I pick up all my playthings

How did you meet Thing One and Thing Two? What are they?

Think One and Thing Two

Are the funniest pair

Wherever they go

It is fun that they share

No matter the time

They like to play games

But they can be naughty

Despite their cute names!

As soon as they arrive

Its mayhem and madness

The children smile in delight

There’s no time for sadness

What’s your favourite ever trick?

The hardest of all

Is the balancing act

Holding so many things

It’s a challenge, that’s a fact!

On the top of my hat

There’s a cup and a cake

And I hold up some books

And the fish on a rake!
