Firefighters tackled the flames using breathing apparatus, main jets and hose reel jets. KFRS were eventually able to subdue the blaze and it was totally under control by 6.10am.

The man was taken to Darent Valley hospital by ambulance crews for precautionary checks.

A spokesman for SECAmb said: "We were called out at 2.25am this morning.

"[The man] in his 40s was suffering from chest pains - one ambulance attended the scene before taking him to hospital for further checks and treatments."
