Kent Police are cracking down on shoplifting, with a string of convictions for thieves in Dartford and Gravesham.

Repeat offender and Gravesend resident Gemma Kaye Gurr was jailed for four months, on January 16.

The 26-year-old pleaded guilty to six counts of shoplifting - from shops in Windmill Street, Whitehill Road, Overcliffe and Kitchener Avenue.

Gurr, who lives in Hampton Crescent, stole almost £230 worth of household products, including beauty products, coffee and washing up liquid.

She was jailed for 120 days at Medway Magistrates' Court.

Back in November last year, Gurr was sentenced to 60 days behind bars - after stealing meat from a store in Valley Drive.

She was given the same sentence in July, after stealing a drill, meat and sandwiches.

Meanwhile, a 24-year-old Dartford man who attempted to steal a motorbike was sentenced last Thursday (January 21).

Lee Mark Derek Garrard interfered with the Hyosung GT125 bike (like the one below) in Mounts Road, Greenhithe, between November 26 and 27 last year.

Dartford and Gravesham magistrates sentenced Laburnum Avenue resident Garrard to 42 days in prison, suspended for 12 months.

They ordered him to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months. He must also pay £85 costs and an £80 victim surcharge.

On the same day, Jayson William Thornhill was jailed for two months - after stealing a toy gun, perfume and hoverboard from shops in Greenhithe and Gravesend.

The 49-year-old, of The Avenue, admitted the theft and also pleaded guilty to fraud by false representation - after attempting to sell the board on.

The three products totalled £800.

Thornhill appeared at Medway and was ordered to pay £80 compensation, £85 court costs and an £80 victim surcharge, as well as his 60 day prison term.

Finally, Claire Louise Havard was also jailed - after appearing at Dartford and Gravesham Magistrates Court on the same day.

She stole meat, worth over £200, from shops in Henderson Drive and Hawley Road, Dartford.

The 30-year-old, of Phoenix Place, was sentenced to 135 days behind bars.

She must pay £209 compensation, and an £80 victim surcharge.
