A small fire at Darent Valley Hospital started after an electrical cupboard ignited.

Firefighters tackled the flames which damaged the electrical supply to a day care theatre earlier this morning (January 26).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) crews were called out to deal with the fire just after 7am.

The blaze was under control by 8.04am.

A spokesman for Darent Valley Hospital in Darenth Wood Road said: “We can confirm there was a small fire confined to an electrical panel in our day care unit earlier this morning.

“The fire was quickly brought under control and the corridors were cleared of smoke.

“The fire affected the electrical supply to one of the day care theatres that was not in use at the time.

“No one was injured and for safety reasons, patients were moved away from the area.

“We hope to resume full day care services by later today.”

A KFRS spokeswoman added: “We were called out to a small fire in an electrical cupboard at Darent Valley Hospital.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used Co2 and dry powder to extinguishers to put out the fire.

“They used the hospital ventilation system to clear smoke from the corridor.

“The stop time was 8.04am.”
