Gale-force winds and heavy rain are set to batter south-east London and north Kent as weather warnings remain in place across the UK.

Forecasters said the area would be hit by “persistent and heavy” rain and strong southwesterly winds throughout today (November 30).

A yellow “be aware” warning for wind is in place for London and south-east England and the Met Office warned of “the risk of localised disruption to travel” due to wind speeds.

Temperatures are expected to reach around 13C and outbreaks of rain are expected to continue throughout the night.

Tomorrow will be much the same with cloud, rain and strong winds but some brighter spells in the afternoon.

South-east London and north Kent is to feel little respite from the unsettled weather until Friday when the rain is expected to clear, becoming dry and bright but cool.

Elsewhere in the UK, almost a month’s worth of rain is expected to fall in Wales today, and three flood warnings have been issued for the River Ouse in north Yorkshire, Keswick Campsite in Cumbria and Felixstowe Ferry and Bawdsey Quay in Suffolk.

Storm Clodagh brought gales of 70mph yesterday, leading to fallen trees and travel disruption across the UK, and some local authorities were forced to cancel their Christmas lights switch-on celebrations.

A fallen tree on the line near Bellingham last night caused delays to Southeastern services in the area.
