A Swanley couple have been jailed after a builder was beaten up and stabbed with a screwdriver.

Robert Symons, 51, and Jenny Turrell, 49, were both sentenced at Canterbury Crown Court to three years.

The couple, of Birchwood Park Avenue, were found guilty of unlawful wounding.

Turrell was also found guilty of possessing an offensive weapon after stabbing Jeff King.

The court heard that handyman Mr King and Symons had been friends for 30 years but reportedly fell out after the couple refused to pay him for renovation work on their property in Margate.

The victim allegedly "smashed up" the house in Ethelbert Gardens overnight on January 29, while the owners were in Turkey.

Mr King was then attacked by the couple on February 10.

A shocked witness heard Turrell shouting: "I'll f***ing stab you again", as she injured the builder.

Her husband punched Mr King to the ground, and kicked the 54-year-old, who bled heavily from the screwdriver wound to his neck.

The couple were acquitted by the jury of wounding with intent to cause serious harm.

They had originally denied attempted murder – a charge which was later dropped at the direction of Judge Adele Williams.
