A mum from Dartford has a radical new look after chopping off 18 inches of hair to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

'Curly Carole' Carpenter will have to find a new nickname after donating her signature long locks to the Little Princess Trust.

The 43-year-old from Hawley Road is continuing to fundraise after she smashed her £500 target.

She told News Shopper: "I think Great Ormond Street do a lot that we don't realise. They look after sick children but they also support families as well.

"You can raise money and help by just having your hair cut off, it doesn't hurt.

"It helps and that's why I wanted to do it."

Carole Carpenter said goodbye to her long locks.

Around 20 supporters, including Ms Carpenter's two daughters, watched as she waved goodbye to her long hair at Raw Hair in Spital Street yesterday (August 25).

Hairdresser Vicki Hall generously offered to cut Ms Carpenter's hair for free and help raise money for GOSH.

Ms Carpenter, who works as a teaching assistant, said the reaction to her new 'do has been positive from friends and family .

She added: "They know how much my hair meant to me, no one can believe I've had it done.

"Not only are you helping with money raising for GOSH, you're helping another little girl feel like a little girl again.

"I wasn't even expecting to get to £500, I'm totally overwhelmed."
