A feline named Scooby has survived being shot in the eye after going missing from his Dartford home, as the RSPCA appeals for information.

The seven-year-old tabby and white cat went missing from Bridges Drive in Temple Hill on August 8.

Three days later Scooby was found in a neighbour's shed with a badly injured eye after being shot at close range.

His owner Jeanette said: "I can’t believe someone would do this to an animal, it’s heartbreaking.”

Scooby was taken to the Celian Hammon Animal Trust vet in Lewisham where he had to have his left eye completely removed.

Scooby the cat.

He is now on the road to recovery, but will need to return for regular check-ups after the vet was unable to remove the pellet from his head.

The RSPCA is appealing for information in a bid to catch whoever shot the much-loved pet.

RSPCA Inspector Anthony Pulfer said these kind of "brutal attacks" happen far too often.

He said: “We would like to hear from anyone who has any information on who shot poor Scooby.

"It is important to remember that it is a legal as well as a moral offence to cause deliberate cruelty to an animal in this way."

Mr Pulfer added: "Cats and wildlife seem to be most vulnerable simply because they are out there in the open and perpetrators can be difficult to trace.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 123 8018.
