A 56-year-old Dartford man has been sentenced to 200 hours of community service for growing cannabis plants.

George Edward Murphy pleaded guilty to the production of drugs - and was sentenced last Monday (July 20) at Dartford and Gravesham Magistrates’ Court.

On June 23 the Darenth Wood Road resident was caught producing 23 plants of cannabis at the road he lives on.

Magistrates ordered Murphy to carry out the unpaid work in the next 12 months.

He must also pay a £180 criminal courts charge, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
