Drivers are being advised to avoid London Road which has been closed after a burst water main.

The temporary fountain sprung up in the middle of ongoing roadworks earlier this morning (July 2).

The number 96 bus is being diverted and users have been warned of delays.

Social media users revelled at the newly formed stream as engineers tried to stop the leak.

A spokeswoman from Thames Water said the road has now reopened.

She said: “Our engineers have stopped the flow of water from the pipe which was damaged by nearby roadworks and the road is now reopen.

"While we repair the pipe some customers may find their water is temporarily switched off or they have low pressure – please bear with us, we’ll be working as fast as we can to get the area back to normal."
