A man from Dartford and his passenger were taken to hospital after a Sussex crash in which a motorcyclist died.

The 53-year-old Dartford resident and his passenger, a 51-year-old woman, were driving in silver Ford Focus in Icklesham yesterday (June 28).

They collided with a 61-year-old man from Hastings, who was riding a blue Trimph Legend motorcycle, on the A259 Main Road at around 10.15am.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance attended but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and his passenger were both taken to the Conquest Hospital, in St Leonards-on-Sea, with 'minor injuries'.

TODAY'S TOP STORIES:

The A259 was closed between North Lane, Guestling Thorn, and Laurel Lane, Icklesham, for more than four hours while emergency services were at the scene.

Sergeant Neil Walker, of the Sussex road policing unit, said: "Sadly the motorcyclist involved lost his life.

"We would ask anyone who saw what happened or who noticed either vehicle being driven shortly before the collision to contact us as soon as possible."

Sgt Walker added: "The incident meant the road between Hastings and Rye was closed to traffic for a considerable time.

"Motorists are thanked for their patience."

Witnesses should email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting Operation Marwell, with information.

The coroner for East Sussex has been informed.
