It’s not just young actors being given the chance to get on stage when The Orchard Theatre’s Youth Project stages Oliver later this year, there’s been fierce competition among canines too.

The play will give more than 100 local youngsters the chance to sing, act and dance on stage in Dartford – but only one dog.

Among the hopefuls for the role of Bill Sykes’ loyal Bullseye at yesterday’s auditions were English Bull Terrier Daddy, Trixie the Jack Rusell, Lily the Papillon-cross-Pomeranian and English/French Mastiff Milo.

Some of the dogs literally jumped through hoops to prove their worth to the judging panel, whose decision will be announced next week.

Oliver is at The Orchard Theatre from August 13 to 15. Go to orchardtheatre.co.uk or call 01322 220000.
