A British champion drummer has broken his second world record after playing a drum roll for more than 12 hours in Dartford on Saturday (May 16).

Jayson Brinkler beat the world's longest individual drum roll record and set a new time of 12 hours five minutes and five seconds, despite playing with an injured wrist.

The 44-year-old from Dagenham, started drumming at 4am in Highfield Baptist Church, where he teaches the Blazing Brass marching band.

Towards the end of his marathon drum roll Mr Brinkler was joined by the mayor of Dartford Avtar Sandhu and Eastenders actress Cheryl Fergison, as well as around 50 supporters.

"Everyone was willing me to do it, it was really good," he said.

"About four hours before the end I felt like giving up because the pain was just too great.

"I knew there was only five or 10 minutes, even then I wanted to stop and give up, but I managed to dig deep and get over the finish line."

On top of securing a new record Mr Brinkler also raised around £500 for the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys.

He first thought of the idea in August last year, when he watched a video of a Royal Marine attempting the drum roll record and thought he could do better.

Mr Brinkler thought it would be a fitting way to mark his 30th anniversary in drum corps.

He broke the record using a pair of drum sticks he has had for 30 years.

Mr Brinkler also teaches school children drumming skills in Bexley as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award.
