Two special young dogs are starting to look for new homes – after being in kennels for five and six months.

The Brands Hatch site of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are appealing for new homes for the dogs, who have stayed a lot longer than the average 29 days.

Jake the Jack Russell is four and a half years old and was brought to Battersea by his owners who could not look after him anymore.

He is described as a lively and spirited little dog who will need an owner with a calm household and willingness to work on his behaviour.

Alaskan Malamute Theo, 3, came in as a stray last year.

A Battersea Brands Hatch spokeswoman said: “He is a beautiful dog but is very headstrong and juvenile, so new owners really need experience of the breed and lots of patience for training him further.”

Battersea Brands Hatch re-homing and welfare manager Michelle Bevan said: “The average stay for a dog at Battersea is 29 days so five or six months is far too long for dogs to live in kennels.

“Both of these gorgeous boys have very specific behavioural traits that will be best appreciated by aficionados of their breed, so we’re really hoping the right person reads this and comes forward.”
