Ever feel like you spend too long on your commuter train?

A Kent city worker had a nasty shock when he found himself trapped on an abandoned train after falling asleep on his way home.

Connor Watts from Gillingham was on his train for three hours when he and woke up in Dartford train depot.

The 19-year-old had gone for after work drinks last night (February 19) before taking his normal route home from London Cannon Street.

He said when he woke up: “Because I was so drunk I did not really comprehend.

“I felt like I was dreaming at one point. It was quite surreal.”

The insurance broker had got the 11:40 train home but was sick in the toilet and ended up passing out.

Connor said: “I woke up about 2am and went out and sat in a seat.

“And after sitting there for about half an hour I realised the train wasn’t moving, and I was the only person sitting on the train.”

The lights and heating were still on, which was why Connor had not realised it was empty.

Finding that he was locked in, Connor realised his only option was to phone the police.

Connor said: “The guy on the phone was really helpful.”

The emergency services directed Connor’s call to British Transport Police who came and let him out - but only after he had waited another half an hour.

Connor added: “The guy that came and got me said they normally check the train.

“I think it was because I was in the toilet, but they should check them really.”

Connor’s night ended with a £40 cab back to Gillingham, and big a lesson learnt about falling asleep in train toilets.

British Transport Police have been approached for comment, but have not yet responded.
