A group of Dartford Sea Scouts stayed aboard a warship used in the Falklands War during a weekend exploring Naval history in Portsmouth.

Dartford Cambria Sea Scouts spent two nights on HMS Bristol, a Type 82 destroyer which saw service during the 1982 conflict.

The group of 19 Explorer Scouts and nine adult volunteers bunked up aboard the vessel, which is now used by the Royal Navy as a training and accommodation ship, on January 16 and 17.

On the Saturday they were given tours of HMS Victory and HMS Warrior and the following day the group visited the Royal Armouries and Fort Nelson before returning home.

Louise Blow, 14, said: "It was the best weekend ever.

"The best experience was sleeping on a real warship."

Cambria group scout leader Steve Newton said: "It is a great privilege to be a Royal Navy-recognised group and the opportunity to stay on board a warship is pretty much a once in a lifetime experience.

"All of our Explorers had a brilliant time and we hope to be able to do something like this again in the future."
