A car burst into flames outside a Dartford school.

The fire could be seen erupting through the bonnet of the light green vehicle outside Wilmington Grammar in Common Lane where pupils were said to have behaved "very responsibly".

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokeswoman told the News Shopper the crew manager was pleased with how the youngsters behaved during the incident.

The spokeswoman said: "We were called at around 2.05pm to reports of a car on fire.

"A parent who was meeting her child had realised her car had caught alight and managed to get out on time.

"The pupils behaved very responsibly and gave the fire crew, from Dartford, wide berth while they put the fire out.

"They left the scene at around 2.20pm."

X Factor star and Stereo Kicks band member Charlie Jones, 14, is a pupil at the school.
