Each week I use this space to share my five thoughts – the good, the bad and the ugly.

But I’m not selfish, so I’m also very happy to donate the space to guest writers to have their say. Write to me via the details below.

1. How refreshing in these crazy health and safety days, when conkers have been outlawed, to see something that continues into the 21st century regardless of the danger. If you have not been to the village of Lewes on November 5, take my advice and go. If it is a fine night, walk up to the golf course on the hill, for a view of seven bonfires and all the fireworks. You will not be disappointed.

2. And while we are on the subject of H&S there’s another “H” word capable of driving you equally batty. What is it with HR these days? There’s a form for everything, we even get forms about forms now, where will it end?

3. You might only be as old as you feel, and I won’t do the age-old joke, but if you get a bruise it seems to last for weeks. I know healing takes longer the older you get, but I’ve had this purple patch for ages.

4. Now, I won’t drone on about this, but this week the nice people at Maplin sent us a superb piece of kit. Shopper Chopper was duly launched and you will be able to see the video very shortly. Drones are a brilliant thing, but do not advise H&S or HR. But, as a brief aside, I would like to pass on my sincere thanks to the incredibly helpful fellow from Network Rail.

5. And finally, quote of the week must go to Gemma Collins on I’m A Celebrity. It is asking for trouble if the first thing you say is: “Who knows, I might be the next Bear Grylls”.
