The Mayor of Dartford has called for residents to support this year's Poppy Appeal.

Councillor Avtar Sandhu MBE, is inviting Dartford’s residents to wear their poppy with pride and join him at the annual Remembrance Day Parade and Service.

Poppies are available from sellers around the borough with all proceeds going to the Royal British Legion.

Dartford’s Remembrance Day Service takes place on November 9 starting at 10.45am with a procession from Dartford Borough Museum to the War Memorial.

The service will include wreath laying and a two minute silence.

After the service, a march past and parade by members of local uniformed organisations will complete the commemoration.

Coun Sandhu said: "Remembrance Day 2014 holds a special significance as this year we commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the start of the First World War and remember the thousands who died during the conflict."
