UKIP has chosen its candidates for two Dartford Council by-elections next month.

The deaths of Councillors Nancy Wightman and John Muckle has left vacancies in the Brent and Littlebrook wards, held by the Conservatives and Labour respectively.

At the poll on November 13 UKIP is hoping to win its first seat in Dartford after David Jones became the party’s first member of Swale Borough Council following a by-election on October 16.

Littlebrook candidate and retired mother-of-one Sonia Keane said: "The desolation of Dartford town centre has left many people, both Labour and Tory voters, very dissatisfied with Tory-led Dartford Council, or the Kremlin as we call it, making a lot of mistakes and getting nowhere.

"What is needed is fresh thinking and enthusiasm and those are the qualities UKIP will bring to the table here in Dartford."

Brent candidate and resident Shan-E-Din Choycha, 29, a systems controller for a Dartford cab company, added: "Brent’s roads are plagued with potholes and I will do my utmost to get investment for urgent road repairs to improve things.

"We need to win Brent for UKIP and bring about a new era of UKIP’s open, honest, direct politics to Dartford."
